Types of Incontinence
- Stress incontinence – the leakage of small amounts of urine during coughing, sneezing, laughing, or other activities that increase abdominal pressure. Stress incontinence accounts for 50-70% of all incontinence.
- Urge incontinence – the urgent need to pass urine, the inability to get to the toilet in time. The entire bladder contents are often emptied. Urge incontinence makes up 20-40% of all incontinence.
- Overflow incontinence – the spilling over of small amounts of urine when the bladder is full. Overflow incontinence accounts for 5-10% of all incontinence.
